Correct Condom Usage

Male condoms can sometimes get a bad reputation for breaking easily, which may or may not be warranted. Condoms are broken easiest when they are used improperly, which happens more often than people think. Condoms are put under intense testing before they are sold to ensure the highest quality possible, which potentially means that breakage is […]

Ratings from Daily Splice

Our Kinsey Confidential podcasts were recently reviewed by Daily Splice. Though they don't have any standard way to rate podcasts, they do have entertaining ratings that range from negative to positive, and random "things" (one podcast was given "5 degrees celcius", another got "4.5 volts" [it was about electronics]), an education-related podcast was given "three […]

What will they think of next?

There's still a long way to go, but researchers have been working on a new form of birth control (for men!). The research has found that when testosterone and progestin are paired together, it's effective at suppressing sperm count. More research needs to be done to determine just how effective this will be, especially because […]

Reluctance to use Condoms

condom in handA study conducted by researchers here at The Kinsey Institute reveals that men are less likely to use condoms when they report an erection loss while using the condoms. So if a man has erection difficulties while he's wearing a condom, he's more likely to ditch the whole condom idea entirely and not use protection.

Worth checking out if you’re near Chicago

On April 11, the world's biggest conference on Black and Latina/o sexuality will take place at the University of Illinois in Chicago.  It's called "Race, Sex, Power: New Movements in Black and Latina/o Sexualities," and there are so many topics I can't list them all (everything from sexual tourism to civil rights). If you're interested to learn […]

Virtual tour of K.C. exhibit

The Kinsey Institute art gallery recently had an exhibit of Kinsey Confidential - questions and answers to the KC site illustrated with art from the institute.

Q&A: Vaginal tearing

QUESTION: How long does it take for the vagina to heal from tears (tears from sex)? If one had consensual sexual intercourse 2 weeks ago and had some vaginal tearing, could it be re-irritated by sex, fingering, other foreplay? Is it possible to obtain tears in the vagina if the male only penetrated once and […]

Fear of sex is overrated

Working on sex at The Kinsey Institute in Indiana comes with its challenges.
Though Alfred Kinsey's books were published a half century ago and the Institute itself has survived and grown at Indiana University since 1947, stepping outside of the protected walls can make us vulnerable.
Though I shouldn't have been surprised, Ann Fritz, Director of […]
